Dear Supporter:

In 2013, the greater Hampton Roads area lost one of this region’s respected leaders, the beloved Reverend Dr. Jake Manley, Sr.  Rev. Manley championed the fight on crime in many ways which were embodied under the renowned substance abuse program “Showers of Blessings.”  This program offered participants a chance for redemption.

As a tribute and memorial to the work he pioneered, The Jake and Audrey Manley Scholarship Foundation has been established.  This vehicle will ensure his mission continues to flourish and will expand its scope of assisting participants focused on moving forward both academically and economically. Our new program, Back at 1, focuses on redirecting and guiding those attempting to separate themselves from the negative influences that lead to a destructive lifestyle in an effort to start anew.

The Back at1 Program is a tax-exempt, 501(c) (3) organization.  We are a mentoring system that provides resources and directives to people who want to triumph over their past and focus on a brighter future.  We offer direction, support, and accountability to help participants accomplish their ultimate dream of earning the educational, social and leadership skills needed to compete in today’s job market. Our goal is to strengthen our communities by empowering disparaged participants and to equip them with the tools to become, marketable, productive, and self-sufficient citizens.

With this in mind, we must commit to raising funds to administer and achieve our goal by April 1, 2015.  Your gifts will enable us to provide essential workshops, supplies, and services and will fund scholarships that we will award to qualified recipients. To be eligible, candidates must demonstrate financial need and academic merit, as determined by an educational institution. Scholarships are administered directly to the attending institution.

Our organization relies on the generosity of businesses and individuals like you, and we thank you for your contribution toward this endeavor.  A donor envelope is enclosed for your convenience.

Please help us in this mission!
